About Us What to Expect
Third Presbyterian Church serves and worships the Triune God of grace and love- the One God who has been revealed to us fully in Jesus Christ, our Lord. We are a community of witnesses among many who make up the body of Christ. We are a member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) and we share our duties as Christ's witnesses within the Shenandoah Presbytery, as well as our denomination.
We share in the life and history of our Reformed Tradition, and we embrace eleven creeds, catechisms and confessions that we believe are faithful and reliable witnesses to the word of God. Along with the Holy Scriptures, our creeds, catechisms, and confessions ground us in the historic Christian faith and stand as signposts, pointing us to faith in Christ and Christian living. Our creeds, catechisms, and confessions are: The Nicene Creed,The Apostles’ Creed, The Scots Confession, The Heidelberg Catechism, The Second Helvetic Confession,The Westminster Confession,The Shorter Catechism,The Larger Catechism, The Theological Declaration of Barmen, The Confession of 1967, A Brief Statement of Faith – Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) |
We gather each Sunday for one purpose and one purpose only; to worship and glorify God. At Third we try not to label the different forms and ways of worshiping. We believe what God desires is authentic worship, which is expressed in many different ways. Some might call our worship service "more traditional" and that is okay with us! While we may lean towards the traditional side of worship, we strive to be faithfully creative and purposeful as we worship God.
Our members come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, and we do our best to incorporate our diversity in our worship services. On any given Sunday you might hear in French, Kirundi, or Korean in our worship. When we gather together to worship God we often sing hymns, pray aloud together, as well as offer silent prayers, we read aloud from the Old and New Testaments, we profess our faith together, and we prepare our hearts and minds to serve God and neighbor in every aspect of our lives. |
What to Wear• Though we are traditional in worship, we want you to come as you are to worship God.
• Some of our members wear a more formal attire, while others wear blue jeans. • There is NO DRESS CODE! |
What Do I Bring• Our only desire is for you to bring a heart and mind that is ready to worship God.
• We would love for you to bring a friend or family member to worship with you. • Bring your joys and praises, your concerns and worries. We are a community that prays and cares for each other in all aspects of life. |
I have children!• We believe children are an integral part of our worship service. They bring joy and praise that can only come from them. Children are welcomed and encouraged to stay throughout the whole service.
• We know children can express their praise loudly! So if you think your child might be best suited in a place where they can be free to praise as they please, we have a newly remodeled nursery where they may worship God as they play! • We also have other areas such as our library where you and your child may go if you feel it is necessary to leave the worship service. |
How Can I serve?• We serve God and neighbor in a varieties of ways here at Third. Our members are very active in serving not only here in the church but in our community as well. We participate in the First Baptist Church's food pantry, we pack meals in backpacks for local school children, we help with Meals on Wheels, and we give portions of our offerings to local and regional programs to help our community, just to name a few.
• The best way to find out more is to join us on Sunday and ask how we can help you in your call to serve. |
